Teradyne will be introducing the newest member of its next-generation
Optima 7000-Series family of automated optical inspection systems at the
APEX 2001 tradeshow held January 16-18 in San Diego. The Optima 7200
Post-Placement Inspection System is designed to provide comprehensive
defect detection as well as process monitoring and metrology of the Surface
Mount Technology (SMT) component placement process. The Optima 7200
monitors placement equipment operation to validate calibration and minimize
defect escapes, increasing downstream yields and reducing repair costs. The
advanced image acquisition and image analysis technology of the Optima 7200
provides 100% component inspection and fault coverage ? at the rate of
modern, high-speed surface mount lines.
The Optima 7200 Post-Placement system licenses image analysis and management technology from Imagen Incorporated, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The Optima 7200s advanced technology helps eliminate placement system variance and resultant errors produced during the high-speed and fine pitch placement phases. Program development is rapid, producing finished programs in hours. Built-in metrology tools provide measurement and tracking of variances in X, Y and THETA, allowing manufacturers to maximize placement system performance.
