Astro-Med Introduces Telemetry Recorder-Workstation

December 27, 1999

The Test and Measurement Systems Product Group of Astro Med, Inc. (West Warwick, RI), has announced the introduction of a telemetry recorder-workstation. Designated Everest, the unit was designed and engineered for aerospace applications, including flight testing, missile testing, flight simulation and satellite telemetry.

A large potential demand for the Everest is currently emerging as commercial aircraft manufacturers and Government agencies such as NASA, the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Air Force are retiring old chart recorders and replacing them with state-of-the-art equipment for telemetry recording. Everest offers a multitude of features including an 18-inch touch-panel color display for real-time data viewing, intuitive touch-screen interface, 32 analog or digital input channels, high resolution chart for sharp, clear traces, and Virtual Chart™ for saving an entire test to the internal hard drive without printing.

"Moving pen tips" driven by signal data, as it is acquired, mark the real-time data points on the display. When signals exceed specified limits, the "alarm" can be set to change the waveform color or produce an audible tone to alert the operator of possible areas of interest. A single touch of the screen marks any portion of data with a 32-character alphanumeric notation and a vertical line on both the screen and the chart, simplifying data review at a later time.

The initial market focus of the Everest is aerospace, including Government agencies and commercial aircraft manufacturers around the world. Subsequent versions of the Everest will be directed at industrial applications including power generation, telecommunications, commercial satellite tracking, automotive testing, and primary metal manufacture.

The Test and Measurement Systems Product Group of Astro-Med designs, manufactures, and sells a broad range of high tech specialty data acquisition and printing systems employed around the world in a wide range of industrial, scientific, and medical applications.
