Signal Quality Analyzer Measures Jitter Tolerance of PHY Devices Supporting 100GbE, OIF-CEI 28G, InfiniBand EDR, and 32G Fibre Channel

Richardson, TX /PRNewswire/ -- Anritsu Company introduces a jitter modulation source and passive linear equalizers for its MP1800A that allow the BERT to generate wide-amplitude SJ with low intrinsic jitter. The new functions complement the existing high performance of the MP1800A to create a 32 Gbit/s jitter tolerance test solution with the required high accuracy and sufficient margin for measuring the jitter tolerance of PHY devices operating up to 32 Gbit/s, such as SERDES supporting 100GbE, OIF-CEI 28G, InfiniBand EDR, and 32G Fibre Channel.

The jitter modulation source generates wide-amplitude SJ up to 2000UI and 1UI at high jitter modulation frequencies of 250 MHz, along with the simultaneous generation of RJ, BUJ, SSC, and 2nd Tone SJ. Additionally, the source has extremely low intrinsic jitter of 275 fs rms (typical), both when the jitter modulation is off and when 0 UI is set at jitter injection on, to ensure accurate measurements at low jitter amplitudes. The ability to generate RJ, BUJ, SSC and 2nd Tone SJ allows the MP1800A to support recent standards, including CEI-28G and 100 GbE.

To measure the impact of high-frequency transmission line distortion on high-speed printed circuit boards (PCBs), the new passive linear equalizers can be connected to the MP1800A's high-sensitivity Error Detector (ED) to compensate for PCB ISI for improved EYE openings. The combination of the equalizers and ED allows signal integrity engineers to conduct more accurate BER and jitter tolerances tests on PHY devices with low EYE openings.

The new jitter modulation source and passive linear equalizers complement the existing MP1800A BERT analysis capabilities for testing today's high-speed designs. Modular in design, the MP1800A standard configuration features the ED, as well as a built-in low-intrinsic-jitter Pulse Patter Generator (PPG). Various jitter generation modules can be easily added to the BERT to support generation of numerous jitter modulation components. The MP1800A can be configured with the MP1825B 4TAP Emphasis and PAM Converter to create a total solution that can be used during the development of high-end servers, storage systems, and communications devices used in Next Generation Networks (NGNs).
