Agilent Expands Capability of Test Set for GSM Mobile-Phone Repairs

Agilent Technologies (Palo Alto, CA), a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard Company, today announced that it has enhanced the E6392B GSM mobile-station test set with new capabilities for module-level repair and calibration. The frequency range of the GSM test set has been extended to cover the U.S. PCS1900 frequency band.

New dual-band, hand-over capability has been added for testing GSM900/DCS1800 dual-band phones. This capability allows service technicians to verify whether a phone can properly hand off calls between the GSM and DCS networks. The number of channels in the test set for fixed traffic-channel measurements has been expanded from three to six, providing greater flexibility for testing hand-overs in multiple bands. Features for adjusting and calibrating phones after repair now include an 11 volt DC source, async test mode for measuring transmitter power, and optional 0.5dB signal generator steps for receiver testing.

The E6392B GSM test set was designed to help technicians cope with the growing number of mobile phones coming into service centers. It provides module-level repair capability for the price of an entry-level "go/no go" tester. By extending troubleshooting, repair and calibration activities to local shops, GSM service providers and mobile-phone-repair organizations can keep equipment costs in line and reduce the number of "no trouble found" phones that get sent back to the manufacturer.

Agilent's E6392B GSM mobile-station test set is available now and lists for $10,650.
