The Vi-2000 automated optical inspection system is capable of inspecting 100,000 components per hour, at speeds upwards of 2 m/sec. It is installed at multiple locations in an SMT production line, typically after the stencil printer, where it measures solder paste deposits; after the chip shooter to check for component placement and analyze fine pitch solder deposits; after the fine pitch place to check for proper orientation of components; and after the reflow oven to inspect finished joint integrity. For inspection of component placement, the system measures components, confirms their values and polarity and ensures placement accuracy using image analysis software. Featuring Windows NT 4.0, it is easily programmed with standard Gerber files. The system also incorporates SPC software tools and an extensive component library.
The system employs high speed linear motors and glass-scale linear encoders for precise positioning, achieving accuracy and repeatability of +10 microns. The system employs up to four different CCD cameras and incorporates several types of lighting, including axial centered amber, axial peripheral amber, near annual amber, and near annular green, all of which are adjustable from 0-100%.
