Fiber Monitoring System

GN Nettest announced the availability of the OT8000, a fiber monitoring system designed to monitor one or more critical fibers carrying vital information, or to monitor fibers located in unstable physical situations.

Depending on the optical module selected, fiber breaks can be detected at distances of up to 250 km for the Local Test Unit (LTU). The systems mapping program is capable of pinpointing faults, breaks, and deterioration within meters. The alpha-numeric paging feature will automatically notify customers and/or field technicians in the event of a break and provide information on break location, allowing service providers to deal with actual or potential outrages.

The OT8000 can be programmed to perform certain tests at specific times, or perform continuous testing.

Using the optional optical switch allows the OTDR to monitor multiple fibers in several cables at different locations. With a 48 port optical switch, a service provider could monitor up to 12,000 km of cable. With multiple switches, it could monitor cables at multiple sites.

The system is compatible with all GN Nettest fiber optic instruments so that all test data can be compiled in one database.
