Giga-tronics Supplies High Power Test Signals For Checking A Facility's Electronic Security
Giga-tronics announced recently that it is supplying equipment to provide high power test signals for checking a facility's electronic security. More and more companies in defense electronics, the intelligence gathering community and the IT field are concerned about the security of data. It is relatively easy for RF & Microwave receivers to detect and "hear" the data transmitted between microprocessors, computers and wireless connections. Security conscious companies go to great lengths to screen their buildings. There are many instances of buildings being retrofitted with solid copper shields to effectively produce a shielded room the size of a building. But how effective is the shielding? One way to test the effectiveness is to generate a relatively high power test signal from inside the building and look for it on the outside. This method will effectively highlight any weak spots.
Giga-tronics Inc. is supplying a number of customers with equipment for this very application with a microwave signal generator and 10 Watt microwave power amplifier that is swept over the 2 GHz to 20 GHz frequency spectrum. The system is attached to an isotropic antenna inside the facility and the outside of the building is tested for signals emanating from this test source. It is much easier to walk around the building with a portable listening device than try to keep the listening device fixed and move a test signal source around.
Tests like these often show leakage around windows and corners of the building that can be further shielded to improve the overall screening and insure data security.
