HP and Alcatel Develop High-Volume ADSL Manufacturing Test System
Hewlett-Packard Company and Alcatel are developing a high-volume manufacturing test solution for Alcatel's ADSL 1000 modem product line.
Alcatel required a high-volume manufacturing test solution to meet the growing demand for its ADSL modems and to sustain its market position. This co-development combined Alcatel's ADSL engineering knowledge and test modems with HP resources and test expertise to develop a focused ADSL test system based on the HP 79000 functional test platform.
The HP 79000 ADSL test system enables Alcatel to meet customer demand for manufacturing ADSL modems in high volumes. Fast parallel-throughput testing reduces the number of test systems needed and the amount of floor space required, maximizing operational efficiency. The system is able to keep pace with the manufacturing beat rate, with test times averaging approximately 25 seconds per modem for a complete suite of functional (transmission) and parametric tests.
The 1000 ADSL modem uses industry-standard discrete multitone (DMT) modulation. The ADSL system provides simultaneous high-speed data and voice traffic for residential and business customers, using ordinary copper telephone lines and an ATM-based (asynchronous transfer mode) network architecture.
The HP 79000 ADSL test system provides a functional (transmission) and parametric test solution for all ADSL modem manufacturers and is ideally suited for ADSL-DMT and ADSL G.lite products. HP 79000 ADSL provides a 400Hz measurement resolution over a 2MHz span-- exceeding T1.413 specifications-- which results in full-power spectral-density measurements (multitone power ratio) in less than 3 seconds.
