MATLAB-based Test and Measurement Solution

MathWorksathWorks released its new solution for test and measurement applications. The new Test & Measurement Suite offers a set of MATLAB tools and add-on products for interfacing with industry-standard data acquisition devices and instruments and for analyzing the acquired data.

Supported interfaces include GPIB, VXI, and serial port standards as well as communication with popular data acquisition hardware.

The Suite is designed to support the entire measurement and analysis process, including interfacing with data acquisition devices and instruments, analyzing and visualizing the acquired data, and producing presentation-quality output. The suite provides new tools developed specifically for test and measurement applications: the Data Acquisition Toolbox 2 and the new Instrument Control Toolbox 1.

The Test & Measurement Suite consists of the following products:
Instrument Control Toolbox 1: allows users to control and communicate with instruments via GPIB and VXI communication protocols. It also provides intuitive user interfaces for creating instrument objects and communicating with instruments.

Data Acquisition Toolbox 2: allows users to stream live, measured data directly into MATLAB. It provides a set of tools for controlling and communicating with data acquisition hardware from vendors, such as National Instruments, Agilent Technologies, and ComputerBoards, as well as any PC-compatible sound card. The toolbox also includes an Adaptor Kit that enables users to create custom interfaces to other data acquisition devices.

Signal Processing Toolbox 5: gives users a complete set of functions for analyzing signals and linear systems, performing time-series data modeling and spectral analysis, and designing and implementing filters.

MATLAB: provides analysis and visualization functionality. MATLAB 6 now provides tools for communicating with devices through the serial port (RS-232, RS-485, RS-422) interface. The MATLAB language and interactive environment give users access to the core analysis and graphics capabilities as well as the add-on toolbox functionality for test and measurement, and signal processing.

Users can also incorporate any of the application-specific MATLAB Toolboxes, such as Statistics, Wavelets, Neural Networks, and System Identification, into their test and measurement solution. The MathWorks also offers add-on tools for database connectivity and report generation that allow users to easily store data and share results with colleagues.
