Metro Tel 56 kbps Modem Line Tester Now Available With Leased Line Testing Capability

MILPITAS, Califomia, July 6, 2000—Metro Tel Corp. of Milpitas, California, today announced that its Model MLT560 hand-held, 56 kbps Modem Line Tester is now available with a leased line test mode in addition to its standard dial-up telephone line testing capability.
"The need for speed on the Internet has put new emphasis on telephone line quality," commented Jerry Burg, Vice President Marketing, "And because users will want to be assured that they're getting the speed they're paying for, the need to provide proof of baud rate testing will be a universal requirement for all network installers and local service providers."
This easy-to-use, battery-powered tester qualifies telephone lines for modem speeds of up to 56 kbps and modem data throughput up to 115.2 kbps with built-in data compression. With the MLT560, the technician can dial any ISP to determine the connection rate, as well as quickly identify any problems affecting throughput due to bandwidth limitations. To provide proof of baud rate testing, a serial port is provided for an optional printer.
The MLT560's functionality includes end-to-end, loop-back BERT testing using the test set's built-in test pattern generator/receiver and a separate central office unit. To initiate a test sequence, the MLT560 field unit dials the CO unit. When testing a leased line, two MLT560 units are utilized, one at each end of the line.
The tester's 4x20 LCD alphanumeric display shows test setups and results. Up to four test configurations can be stored in the unit's onboard, nonvolatile memory.
The compact Modem Line Tester is 7.55" in length by 4.05" wide by 2.69" high and weighs 1 lb. 8 oz. A rechargeable 9.6 VDC NIMH battery pack provides up to 3 hours continuous operation. Phone line jack, power adaptor, and carrying case are included.
