Microtest Announces Version 2.10 of Its OMNIScanner Cable Certification Tool

Microtest Inc. released Version 2.10 of its OMNIScanner(TM) cable certification tool, featuring new measurements, improved graphical and storage capabilities, and a multi-lingual user interface.

Introduced in the summer of 1998, OMNIscanner is certified for Categories 5, 5E and 6 cabling and to provide measurements for Category 7.

The new version of OMNIScanner supports a bandwidth test, providing a result that differentiates link quality by measuring the useful frequency range of a link. Another new feature addresses upcoming cabling industry standards requiring both pair to pair and PowerSum NEXT to be measured using the same test.

The scanner can verify shield continuity for FTP or SSTP cable types as part of its wiremap test.

The product's features include the ability to graph attenuation and crosstalk on the unit's display, providing a visual representation of Attenuation to Crosstalk Ratio (ACR) headroom of the link. OMNIScanner now also provides the ability to store and retrieve full sets of frequency sweep data.

The company has added several enhancements of particular interest for the European cabling community, including a multi-lingual user interface that allows users to switch between French, German, Italian and Spanish.

The wiremap test allows the OMNIScanner unit to be configured to pass/fail on the presence of a properly connected shield, which is necessary in many European countries that use FTP and SSTP cabling systems. The product also now uses digital compensation technologies to make measurements taken though the patch cord appear as if they were done with no cord attached.

OMNIScanner upgrades are available through Microtest's web site at www.microtest.com/omniscanner.
