Boulder, CO - Picosecond Pulse Labs (PSPL), a leading manufacturer of high performance instruments, introduced the 12000 series of pulse/pattern generators. This new series of generators includes the Model 12000 165MHz/20Vpp generator, the Model 12010 800MHz/2.5Vpp generator, and the Model 12020 1.6GHz/2.5Vpp generator. Each of these instruments has fully programmable pulse and pattern capabilities with numerous user selectable modes of operation. In addition, the 12000 series generators share a similar mechanical configuration and include both a front panel GUI interface and GPIB/USB programmability. Applications for the 12000 series generator include serial data, semiconductor (e.g. pulsed IV device testing), and general purpose high-speed pulse testing.

The Model 12000 generator features up to 40V output with programmable risetime and repetition rates from 1mHz to 165MHz (3ns to 1000s pulse duration). The 12000 generator offers the ultimate in user programmability with adjustable risetime, amplitude, offset, period, duration, delay, load impedance, and source impedance (50Ω or 1kΩ). In addition, the 12000 has the ability to perform channel add by summing the output of channels 1 and 2. The 12000 is available with either 1 or 2 channels configured for either rear or front panel output.

The 12010 and 12020 instruments feature extensive serial data testing capabilities, including an option for built-in jitter insertion, 16Mbit of memory depth per channel, and spread spectrum clocking capability. The built-in jitter insertion option is a novel feature for a pattern generator in this price/performance range and it allows the user to test circuit response to intentional timing perturbations. These built-in jitter capabilities include multi-unit interval (UI) sinusoidal jitter, random jitter, and deterministic jitter injection. The 12010 and 12020 are available with either 1 or 2 output channels with or without jitter insertion capability.

The 12000 series generators are targeted for R&D and production test applications where both high-fidelity output and a cost effective solution are import. Kipp Schoen, Picosecond's Director of Marketing explains, "These generators are designed to provide a very high-quality instrument at an attractive price. We expect these generators to be very popular as general purpose pulse generators, programmable clock sources, and programmable serial data test sources."

Additional information and detailed specifications for the 12000 series instruments can be found on the pulse/pattern generator product page at www.picosecond.com.
