Study available of world market for infrared thermometers and thermal imagers

Flow Research and Ducker Research have been engaged in a study of the worldwide infrared market. Those of you who purchased our preceding study, "The Market for Temperature Sensors and Transmitters in the Americas," will find the same comprehensive and thorough treatment that you found in the earlier study.

The new infrared study is called "The Market for Infrared Thermometers and Thermal Imagers Worldwide." It includes the following infrared products:

  • Infrared thermometers (portable and fixed, general purpose, and specialized)
  • Linescanners (general purpose and specialized)
  • Thermal imagers (portable and fixed, general purpose, and specialized)
  • Thermal imagers for firefighting applications (handheld and helmeted)
  • Infrared thermocouples are included with infrared thermometers.

More than 110 interviews with suppliers worldwide were conducted. Part of the challenge was locating infrared suppliers in the UK, Germany, France, Taiwan, Japan, and other countries. A worldwide study is more complex than a US or Americas study, since time and language barriers have to be taken into account. Despite this, nearly every infrared supplier worldwide was interviewed. The result is a comprehensive and up-to-date look at the worldwide infrared market.

The study contains insight and analysis based on the experience of Ducker and Flow Research in the temperature industry. It also includes a major survey of end-users to provide insight into current and future demand. The study is structured as follows:

    Chapter 1: Executive Summary
Chapter 2: Introduction (Scope, Definitions, and Methodology)
Chapter 3: Infrared Product and Technology Analysis
Chapter 4: Infrared Thermometer and Thermal Imager Market Size, and Forecasts through 2005
Chapter 5: Infrared Thermometer and Thermal Imager Supplier Market Shares
Chapter 6: Distributor and End-User Survey Analysis
    Chapter 7: Strategies for Success
    Chapter 8: Company Profiles
    Appendix A: Supplier Input Questionnaire
    Appendix B: End-User Questionnaire
Appendix C: Directory of Infrared Suppliers

Points from the study:

  • The infrared market is divided between infrared thermometers, which sell for relatively less, and linescanners and thermal imagers, which are more expensive
  • The industries that use infrared products range far beyond the process industries, and have a different usage pattern than most typical process instruments
  • Infrared products are the fastest growing segment of the temperature sensor industry, though some are growing faster than others
  • The fastest growing infrared segment is thermal imagers used for firefighting applications (firefighting cameras)
  • Predictive maintenance is a growing application for thermal imagers as prices come down

About the study:

  • The study conducted more than 110 supplier interviews and made onsite visits to leading infrared suppliers.
  • The study contains over 230 charts and tables. Complete market size and market share data is provided by geographic region and by product type. Geographic regions include: North America, Europe, Japan, Asia without Japan, and the rest of world.
  • 100 phone interviews conducted with end-users of infrared products. The results contain 77 charts.
  • In addition to market size data for the year 2000, the study forecasts growth by product, segment, and region through the year 2005.

The publication of the infrared study marks the second major temperature study to be published this year. The first one is, "The Market for Temperature Sensors and Transmitters in the Americas."

"The Market for Infrared Thermometers and Thermal Imagers Worldwide," regular price, $4,900; discounted price for participants, $4,600

"The Market for Temperature Sensors and Transmitters in the Americas," regular price, $4,900; discounted price for participants, $4,600.

Additional copies of either study are available for $500. The study is also available on CD-ROM in Microsoft Word format for an additional $1,000. If you order both studies together, the price for both is $8,600.
