Tektronix Releases Jitter Measurement Package with JAVA
Tektronix introduced the latest in their series of application-specific measurement packages that use Java technology licensed by Sun Microsystems. The newest measurement package, TDSJIT1, enables electronic design engineers to make very-high-speed timing analysis and clock jitter measurements seamlessly from their Tektronix oscilloscope's menu-based user interface.
This application, the fourth made available by Tektronix since March, provides advanced, automatic measurements and analysis of clock timing in industry-specific terminology, automating such measurements as cycle-cycle jitter, N-cycle jitter, skew, period and duty cycle. These measurements are performed on contiguous clock cycles from single-shot acquisitions. Profile plots that display measurements vs. cycle show how various timing parameters change over time. Comprehensive statistics and histograms of timing parameters enhance the powerful analysis capabilities of TDSJIT1.
Designers working with high-speed clocks, phase-locked loops and spread spectrum circuits who use state-of-the-art semiconductor technology need TDSJIT1 to address the smaller timing margins that result from faster clocks.
The previously announced Java-enabled measurement packages from Tektronix include TDSDDM1, which provides specific measurements for the disk drive industry; TDSPWR1, which is for electronic design engineers concerned with the power consumption of components, subassemblies or systems; and TDSPRT1, which enables users to print multiple screens of waveform acquisition, facilitating the documentation and review of waveform information.
Tektronix has established a special marketing and engineering group to develop additional Java application-specific measurement packages. In the future, Tektronix also plans to provide customer-specific, custom-tailored applications, perhaps offering customers the capabilities to develop their own applications.
These application-specific capabilities are available on TDS500D/600C/700D Series oscilloscopes with a hard disk drive (Option HD or Option 2M).
